Minority Students/Alumni Banquet to Feature Former New Mexico Chief Justice
Date: August 30, 2010 to September 24, 2010

 
The 27th annual New England Law | Boston Minority Students/Alumni Banquet will once again bring together successful minority graduates and current students to celebrate diversity and provide mentoring opportunities. The September 24 event will feature an address by Joseph F. Baca, chief justice (retired) New Mexico Supreme Court.

Adjunct Professor Murphy Secures SJC Ruling for Disabled Victims
Date: August 23, 2010 to September 30, 2010
 
The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts has expanded the rights of disabled victims and witnesses in a significant decision on August 11, 2010, which will help ensure equal access to justice in the courts. The case was brought before the SJC by Wendy Murphy ’87, a member of the law school’s adjunct faculty and a nationally recognized expert on victims’ rights, child abuse, and interpersonal violence.

Speaker: June Carbone, the Edward A. Smith/Missouri Chair of Law, the Constitution and Society at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She is also the co-author of Red Families v. Blue Families: Legal Polarization and the Creation of Culture.

Marilyn J. Wellington '91 was appointed executive director of the Board of Bar Examiners by the Supreme Judicial Court, effective September 1, 2010.

George F. Phelan ’79 was sworn in as a judge of the Norfolk Probate and Family Court on July 28, 2010. Judge Phelan served with the Army’s JAG Corps before opening a private solo practice.

Matthew Levin '91 was appointed Chief Administrative Law Judge for the Boston Office of the Social Security Administration in January 2010. 

Jeffrey R. Escobar '04 has joined the Real Estate Department at Proskauer Rose LLP as an Associate and resident construction law specialist. His practice will focus on complex construction law and construction and real estate-related litigation.

Anusce Sanai '09 announced the grand opening of her law firm, Anusce Sanai, LLC, in Alexandria, VA. The firm concentrates on a number of legal matters including, family law, estate planning, and immigration.

Karla Rosero '07 is celebrating the grand opening of her immigration law firm in Brooklyn, NY, the Law Office of Karla P Rosero PLLC, on July 18.

Garfield Miller '97 has been named Caribbean Legal Counsel of DHL Global Business Services, effective June 4, 2010. Garfield joined DHL in 2007 and, prior to his appointment, was providing legal counsel to the internal Real Estate and Procurement Services.

Kathleen Pfeifer Spurling ’88, an alumna and trustee of New England Law | Boston, has been named one of 51 honorees receiving the Massachusetts Medical Law Report’s 2010 “Rx for Excellence” awards. The 2010 awards salute the very best in risk management and patient safety.

John Clemency '84 and four other attorneys, who were all members of national law firm Greenberg Traurig's bankruptcy practice, joined Gallagher & Kennedy, P.A., a full service business law firm based in Phoenix, AZ. John’s practice includes Chapter 11 bankruptcies for lenders, borrowers, committees, trustees, lessors, and asset purchases, commercial litigation, and out-of-court workouts.

Melissa A. Gleick (Durand) '07 has been appointed associate at Estate Preservation Law Offices located in Worcester, MA. Melissa’s practice focuses on estate planning, corporate planning and estate and trust administration. She also represents clients in various probate matters including estates, guardianships and conservatorships. Most recently, Melissa served as law clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts.
